What changes from the original?
The official introduction describes a different cast in the same city. Its premise centers on Weak, a former edgerunner legend living without chrome, and D, whose pursuit of revenge leads toward corporate secrets. These are promotional premises, not a recap of the ending.
The direct practical consequence is that a search for David, Lucy or Rebecca may be better served by the original character guide. A search for the second anime should not be answered with the original show’s 10 episode titles.
Who is making it?
CD PROJEKT RED and TRIGGER are the studios named on the official series page. It lists Kai Ikarashi as director and Kanno Ichigo as lead character designer, with Bartosz Sztybor and Masahiko Otsuka among the creative team.
Those credits distinguish the second production. They should not be copied into a page about the original anime as though every production role were unchanged.
Should you watch the original first?
For a first visit, our editorial recommendation is to begin with the original anime and then move to Edgerunners 2. That preserves a simple release-based route and avoids confusion between the two casts.
The official description calls the second series standalone. Accordingly, the original is useful context rather than a game or reading assignment this guide treats as compulsory. MADNESS follows Rebecca and Pilar’s earlier story and belongs to a different branch of the reading route.
